IUCN UK Peatland Programme Conference

Date: 29 Nov 2016

The IUCN UK Peatland Programme is to focus on ‘Creating a Legacy for Peatlands’ in what is to be its 2016 conference. Having taken a break in 2015 following the conclusion of its previous series of conferences on ‘Investing in Peatlands’, this highly anticipated conference will focus on how we as a nation can improve the state of our damaged peatlands and ensure no further deterioration.

Future funding opportunities will be a key area of exploration, whilst the benefits provided by healthy peatlands and how these fit into the increasingly popular agenda of natural capital will be discussed. Key peatland projects in the UK and abroad will also be encouraged to share their own developments in restoration and management techniques, to enable advanced learning in this fundamental area.

The conference is to be held in Shrewsbury, with opportunities to visit nearby lowland raised bog, fen and blanket bog. It will run from 29th November until 1st December.

More details are to be released soon and tickets expected to go on sale in late June/early July 2016. Keep an eye on our website or email joanna.richards@iucn.org.uk to receive ticket and conference details first.
