Scottish Government announces proposal to maximise emissions benefits of restoring degraded peatland

The Scottish government has published its draft second report on proposals and policies (RPP2) for meeting Scotland's annual greenhouse gas emissions targets.

Scottish Government support Peatland Restoration with funding.

On Monday 22nd October 2012, the Scottish Government announced it will be supporting peatland restoration with plans of £1.7 million funding from their Green Stimulus package.

Press Release: EU Parliament Calls on the EU to take responsiblity for emissions from forests and agriculture but stops short of direct action

NGOs are pleased by the European Parliament's Environment Committee decision today to include agriculture, grasslands and wetlands in the EU's accounting rules for land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF).

International Initiative on Peat and Climate Change Mitigation

FAO and Wetlands International have launched the global 'Organic soils and peatland climate change mitigation initiative'. The Initiative is an informal network of organizations and people committed to reducing emissions from peatlands and safeguarding the other vital ecosystem setvices peatlands provide.

Including Peatland Rewetting in National Greenhouse Gas Accounting

The UK Government has to decide now whether to include peatland rewetting in its national greenhouse gas accounting for the next Kyoto Protocol commitment period 2013-2017.
