Pumlumon Living Landscape project test runs Peatland Code

In the Autumn of 2014 the Pumlumon Living Landscape (PLL) project, led by Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, became one of 20 successful Nature Fund recipients.
This £6million funding pot, announced by the Welsh Government in July 2013, was designed to tackle the continued decline in biodiversity across Wales as highlighted by the State of Nature Report. Projects ranged from work to improve river catchments and marine ecosystems, to peatland restoration and a community project focused on woodland management.

This week, the IUCN UK Peatland Programme (IUCN UK PP) launched the Peatland Code at the World Forum for Natural Capital held in Edinburgh. The prestigious conference saw over 500 delegates from across the globe come together to discuss what natural capital was and how various tools could be applied to help stem the loss of our natural habitats and wildlife.

Scotland's first National Peatland Plan published

Chair of the IUCN UK Peatland Programme, Jonathan Hughes, said: “Scotland’s National Peatland Plan is a vital to tackling the globally important issue of peatland conservation. We must all play our part but clear leadership from the Scottish Government with the right policies and funding in place is essential if people are to be empowered to look after Scotland’s peatlands and appreciate their true benefits to society.”
IUCN UK Peatland Programme announced as finalist of the European Natura 2000 Award – 2015

The Peatland Programme has been announced as one of 23 finalists out of 90 applications received from across the EU. The award aims to bring the success of the Natura 2000 network to the public’s attention and to demonstrate the network’s importance for protecting biodiversity across Europe.
