Travel and accommodation

Our 2026 conference will be held at Swansea University’s Bay Campus, a beautiful location with its own beach, seafront promenade and on-site accommodation, and the perfect base from which to explore the peatlands of south Wales. 

Conference tickets must be purchased separately via TicketTailor.

Getting there

There are a range of public transport services to Swansea, and we encourage our delegates to use lower carbon options wherever possible. 

For those attending field visits, transport will be provided from the Swansea University Bay Campus, where you will be able to collect a packed lunch before leaving. 

 

By Rail

The nearest railway station is Swansea railway station.

Journey times to Swansea railway station: 1 hr from Cardiff, 3 hrs from London Paddington, 3 hrs from Birmingham New Street.

Special Offer: Conference rates are available with Great Western Railway (GWR), which can be purchased through the GWR website. You will be eligible for a 50% conference discount, if you begin your journey at any station on the GWR network.*

Cardiff Airport is the closest airport to the conference venue.

From Cardiff Airport to Swansea: There is a rail service to Swansea railway station (see rail information above).

Parking on campus

Bay Studios Car Park

Day delegates: Delegates can park in the Bay Studios car park, located just opposite campus. If you are staying off campus, ensure you pre-pay for your parking

Residential Delegates: Parking at the Bay Studios Car Park is free for those staying in on-campus accommodation and you should have received a link from the university’s Event Support Officer to submit your vehicle registration number. Please check your accommodation information email.

Blue Badge holders: You can park on campus free of charge, but must provide your vehicle registration in advance to Customer Services: (01792) 606014 (Bay Campus), or Security: (01792) 604271. Parking is available in designated Blue Badge bays or standard bays.

Please note that visitor parking is Pay & Display, with an automatic number plate recognition system in use.

Pedestrian routes from the car park to the Bay Campus are shown on the plan below. Please take care when crossing the dual carriageway and use the designated crossings.

Swansea University

Accommodation and breakfast are not provided as part of our conference ticket options, and on-campus accommodation bookings have now closed.

Swansea offers a wide choice of off-campus accommodation for different budgets, including hotels, B&Bs, hostels and self-catering accommodation. More information can be found on the Swansea accommodation pages of the Visit Wales website.

On-campus accommodation

On-campus accommodation booking has now closed.

The University offers bed & breakfast in a single standard ensuite room, in flats with 7-10 rooms and access to a shared kettle and fridge. Breakfast is served at the Hideaway on campus. 

You can explore on-campus accommodation in the university’s virtual tour.

All the University’s buildings meet strict accessibility criteria including wheelchair access, the provision of hearing loops in all lecture rooms and consideration given for blind visitors. There are a few adapted rooms in all the residences.

The IUCN UK Peatland Programme is not managing on-campus accommodation bookings, so if you have any queries, contact conferences@swansea.ac.uk.
