Explore the world’s peatlands from the comfort of your own home in an immersive low-carbon alternative to physical travel.
The Virtual Peatlands Pavilions were built to highlight the importance of global peatlands for the climate, people and the planet as a key nature-based solution to climate change. Each one was designed for a UN Climate Change Conference – COP26, COP27, COP28 and COP29.
They contain 3D tours with a wealth of inspiring peatland materials from around the world in a variety of formats to suit everyone. There are immersive 3600 views of peatlands from Australia to Peru and introductory videos on what peatlands are and why they matter. The Pavilions also showcase creative inspiration from peatlands including music, artwork displays and audiovisual explorations.
This year, the latest Virtual Peatlands Pavilion is on a World Tour of international events, culminating in COP30 in November. New content will be added alongside a range of new virtual peatland settings for the Pavilion.

These Pavilions were created by our Senior Research Advisor Richard Lindsay from the Sustainability Research Institute at the University of East London, in partnership with the IUCN UK Peatland Programme and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme-led Global Peatlands Initiative. They are a global collaboration between the United Nations, global States, NGOs, academia, practitioners, business communities and many others. They have been created as a long-lasting resource and knowledge hub and are designed to evolve as new content from across the global peatland community is added.
(Please note that only the current Peatlands Pavilion is being updated and maintained).
