The International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA) Accreditation Programme defines and promotes best practice in the financing of high-quality emissions reductions and use of carbon credits as an effective carbon management tool.

Accreditation is obtained through a third-party audit process based on the requirements of the ICROA Code of Best Practice. After initial accreditation the standard is checked every three years by a third-party audit. The Code of Best Practice sets out the guidelines for high integrity and evolves as the voluntary carbon market (VCM) develops to always encompass best practice.

The Code of Best Practice ensures ICROA Accredited organisations and their clients undertake carbon management strategies that lead to ambitious and impactful climate action.

While UKAS is accreditation for our validation and verification bodies, ICROA is aimed at the Peatland Code to ensure that emission reductions achieved by carbon projects adhere to the highest quality principles and processes. This label guarantees transparency, accountability, and drives market confidence that the PCUs are a high integrity carbon credit.

The Peatland Code has submitted an application to ICROA for assessment and are currently hoping to get conditional approval in Summer 2025 once there are sufficient verified credits to be fully endorsed.
