Accreditation

Accreditation is a key aspect of our within the Peatland Code. It demonstrates our adherence to international standards and best practices, providing assurance to our stakeholders that our operations are credible and reliable. It also reflects our commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

We are engaged in two main types of accreditation:

UK and international accreditation of the IUCN UK Peatland Programme and Peatland Code
This includes work towards ICVCM Core Carbon Principles (CCP) approval and alignment with BSI Flex standards. The Peatland Code team is actively working to achieve a CCP label for Peatland Carbon Units (PCUs), strengthening their integrity and recognition in voluntary carbon markets. This includes getting the Peatland Code aligned with the ISO standards to form the framework for Validation and Verification bodies to be able to validate and verify Peatland Code Projects.

Accreditation of validation and verification bodies
Independent validation and verification bodies operating under the Peatland Code are accredited by UKAS (the United Kingdom Accreditation Service) to the following standards:

ISO 17029:2019
ISO 14065:2020
ISO 14064-3:2019

These accreditations ensure that project validation and verification processes are carried out with rigour, consistency, and independence.

The ISO Standards explained

ISO/IEC 17029:2019 is a standard that sets out the general requirements for bodies that perform verification and validation. This can be a standalone accreditation, however usually it is used alongside sector specific programmes and schemes that contain requirements for validation and verification processes and procedures.

ISO/14065:2020 General principles and requirements for bodies validating and verifying environmental information. Provides a comprehensive framework for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of various types of environmental information, beyond just greenhouse gases.

ISO 14064-3:2019 Greenhouse gases – Part 3 helps organisations ensure their GHG statements are credible and trustworthy.
