Frequently asked questions

There are 2 types of validation -  when do I pay the PIU issuance fee?

At project plan validation, you may choose whether to have PIUs issued at this point or wait to have the PIUs released at Restoration Validation. It is recommneded to wait till Restoration restoration before issuing PIU's.

When PIUs are requested, an invoice is raised by the S&P registry team, once the invoice is paid the PIUs are then issued on the UK Land Carbon Registry.

Can I just skip having to pay for PIUs and wait unit PCUs at verification?

No, PIUs must be issued at either Project Plan or Restoration Validation. The Levy is an important source of income for the Peatland Code and without it we wouldn’t be able to offer such a high integrity standard.

What happens if I don’t pay my PIU or PCU fees?

The project is not marked as ‘validated’ or ‘verified’ until the fee is paid.

How do I pay my registry fees?

Your account will receive an invoice from the registry.
