We are excited to announce that the IUCN UK Peatland Programme has been awarded further funding by the Facility for Investment Ready Nature in Scotland (FIRNS) to continue with our work to include biodiversity quantification in the Peatland Code and Woodland Carbon Code.
Some of the key highlights that the next phase of the project will cover are:
- Trialling of the biodiversity quantification method across peatland and woodland pilot sites.
- Development of a measure of habitat structure to be used in fen and paludiculture sites.
- A market valuation study.
- Work with ForestResearch to develop a structural metric for woodlands using the Forest Biodiversity Index (FOBI) and remote sensing techniques

FIRNS is delivered by NatureScot in collaboration with The Scottish Government.
