Welsh up-peat!

September 11, 2023

The National Peatland Action Programme’s summary 3rd Year Report is now on-line. It confirms that, even at a conservative estimate, the restoration action for the first three years in Wales is above the target of 1,800ha, coming to over 2280ha.

NPAP was set up as an initial five-year Programme running from 2020-2025, however with Climate Minister for Wales, Julie James’s announcement, in October 2022, comes the commitment to triple restoration activity to 1800ha/pa by 2031.

Plans to upscale the delivery are now in progress, aiming for full capacity by April 2025. The eventual impact will be in the hectares delivered, as well as in the monitoring, surveying and mapping, and associated training support. NPAP will continue to collaborate with peers across the UK.
