IUCN UK Peatland Programme webinar: Launch of the Peatland Code 2.0

Join the IUCN UK Peatland Programme for a webinar exploring the updates to the Peatland Code Version 2.0

Tuesday 4 April

2 - 3.30pm

With the launch of version 2.0, the Peatland Code has undergone its most significant update since its inception in 2015. Expanded to include more diverse landscapes, with new calculators and measurement tools, the Peatland Code is accessible to more landowners and managers than ever before.

Developed and managed by the IUCN UK Peatland Programme, the Peatland Code is one of only two UK government-backed voluntary carbon market standards. The Peatland Code is a voluntary certification standard for UK peatland projects wishing to market the climate benefits of peatland restoration and provides assurances to voluntary carbon market buyers that the climate benefits being sold are real, quantifiable, additional, and permanent.

Peatlands play an important role in the storage of carbon – holding twice as much carbon as the world’s forests. However, when damaged they release great quantities of carbon dioxide. Peatland restoration provides a cost-effective solution to reducing these carbon dioxide emissions by preventing further oxidisation of exposed peat soils

In this webinar we explored:

• Introduction to the Peatland Code and carbon finance.

• What’s new in version 2, expanding the code to include fens and making it more accessible to bog landscapes.

• How to use the new peat Depth Templates and Emissions Calculators.
