Peat Metal webinar: Post-wildfire heavy metal mobilisation in a contaminated temperate peatland

Abbey Marcotte is a PhD researcher at the Wageningen University (The Netherlands) researching wildfire impacts on temperate peatlands.

Abbey will report on findings from research on the aftermath of the Stalybridge Moor (UK) wildfire in 2018, specifically assessing:

  • Heavy metal enrichment in ash deposits
  • Dissolution and erosion of ash and peat deposits under intense rainstorm events
  • Transport within the fluvial system to the downstream drinking water reservoir
