What the EU LIFE programme has done for the Peak District – a guided walk on Kinder Scout

The Moorland Centre, Edale - 10am - 1pm

The EU has been supporting nature, environment and climate action for 25 years! Moors for the Future Partnership is celebrating this milestone with a guided walk on Kinder Scout.

Moors for the Future Partnership teamIn the run up to BogFest, the Partnership team are leading a six-mile stroll through stunning scenery, as they explain more about work to reverse 200 years of damage to the iconic Peak District National Park uplands.  The fun factor will be enhanced by the chance to have a go at ‘Sphagnum slinging’- throwing tiny beads of Sphagnum moss into the moorland.

Funding from the EU LIFE programme saw the MoorLIFE project protect almost 2,500 hectares of Peak District and South Pennine moorland (roughly the size of 3,500 football pitches) between 2010 and 2015.

Now, the Partnership is continuing vital works across the South Pennine Moors Special Area of Conservation after being granted €12 million from the EU LIFE programme - the largest award ever given to a UK nature conservation project at the time – towards the €16 million MoorLIFE 2020 project.

We’re looking forward to more excursions like this during BogFest, a joint celebration of our iconic uplands hosted by the Moors for the Future Partnership and the IUCN Peatland Programme.

If you’d like to attend the walk please visit the Moors for the Future Partnership website for more information and to book a place.
