Cors y Llyn NNR

Description

The Cors y Llyn Reserve is one of several mires in the local area, although is Wales' only 'schwingmoor'. It consists of two basins carved out by glaciers in the last Ice Age, which are now surrounded by wet woodland and fields, and separated from one another by a drier ridge of peat.

Other habitats here include a wildflower-rich meadow and a large peat pool, home to all three UK newt species.

Restoration Delivered

Work here has foccused on the following:

  • Catchment nutrient reduction measures
  • Large scale bunding and hydrological restoration leading to re-flotation of schwingmooor raft.
