Sightings of redwings sought for community science survey

With autumn fast approaching the Community Science Team at Moors for the Future Partnership is urging volunteers to be on the lookout for the return of the redwing. These migratory birds traditionally arrive back in the UK from Scandinavia and Russia in the autumn. By collecting data about redwings and also the ring ouzel while out and about in moorland areas you will help them to discover:

Dragons establish new den near Stirling

A Scottish wildlife reserve, where one of the country’s rarest butterflies can be found, is now home to a number of beautiful dragonfly species, Butterfly Conservation (BC) can reveal.    Wester Moss in Fallin near Stirling is managed by the wildlife charity and owned by Stirling Council.  

Moine Mhor – the UK’s highest peatland

Above the stunning landscape of Glenfeshie lies the “Great Moss”, the Mòine Mhór, forming a gentle, rolling plateau of peatlands at an altitude of between 900 and 1000 metres. This makes it probably the largest extent of high-altitude blanket mire in Britain, set amongst snow-bed grassland and associated montane sedge, lichen and bryophyte communities.

Archaeological investigations completed

Archaeological survey works have been completed on a popular Peak District path. The investigations were needed to ensure that any proposals put forward to repair the eroded and damaged surface of the Cutthroat Bridleway on the Moscar Estate will take into account any archaeological findings.
